It’s getting very close. There are 10 holes left to cut. I figure I can do that in an hour so next week you might see a finished cross. Here’s the pictures for the week:

A little sanding and finish and this part is done.
I likely won’t be writing much this weekend as I am attending an event this Sunday. More about that later.

Well, I didn’t do the design. I’ll post the credits for that next week, but I did do all the cutting. This will be going to Campbell United Methodist. Glad you’re enjoying this project.

I finished the last cuts yesterday. Now for a bit of sanding and it will be done. Should be posting pictures of that next Wednesday.

My question is…what becomes of the cross when completed?

This cross will be donated to my church as the wood for it came from an old maple tree the church had to cut down a couple of years ago.

Do you sell these and if so for how much?

This will be the fourth one I’ve made and I’ve only sold one at a church auction. Don’t recall what it went for, but it wasn’t as much as I’d hoped. One I’ve kept, one I gave as a gift. This will will be donated to the church.
I didn’t really make these with the thought of selling, but if I was going to sell the price would be have to in the $800+ range just to make back my time – materials and supplies for this are around $50. If I thought I could sell a couple, I might, but it’s a limited market. This is a project that I might do on commission. Still, I am tempted to cut some more of these later in the year.

That’s over my budget, but I’m sure they’re worth that and more. Sorry to hear the one that was auctioned didn’t bring as much as you hoped.

It’s over mine too. I am thinking of doing another set of these later in the summer. Likely I’ll use thinner wood and ‘stack’ cut them. That’s where I’d stack 4 pieces of wood together and then one cutting session makes 4 crosses, not one. Short of getting a CNC machine that the only way to bring the cost down where people could afford it or I wouldn’t feel odd giving them away as gifts.
