Wednesday Woodworking – No Pictures

I have been in the shop, mostly cleaning and getting ready to do a major shop reorg. I did build a couple of more planter boxes.  There are no pictures of this.  It’s pain to upload pictures without my main computer.

That and I forgot to take any.  You see, it’s been cold, raining, and my back hurts so the effort of lifting my cellphone and pressing the button has just been too much.  Maybe next week I can muster the strength to lift my camera high enough to get a good picture.

I did manage to get my computer repaired yesterday.  Last week I made an appointment at the Apple store to get it looked it.  Yesterday I took it in and the tech agreed with me that the hard drive failed.  He told me it would be 3-5 days to repair.  Then said, “That’s standard and what we’re told to tell everybody, but sometimes it’s only a couple of days.”

That was at 11:30 am.  At 2:30 pm they called saying the repair was done and I could pick it up anytime.  I was thrilled, until I looked out the window and realized that it was now raining heavily and likely I’d be carrying my repaired, heavy iMac two blocks through the rain.

Well, that part was so bad as it was only one and half blocks through the rain.

So now I have a repaired computer and need to restore all my files.

There’s a fun job for tonight.

If you need me – I’ll be in the office stressing over a computer,
Andrew

  1. Well, at least you gave us fair warning that there would be no pictures.
    😉
Glad you got your computer back.

My back hurts too. It rained and snowed her. We are supposed to get 4 inches of rain Sunday.

  4. Sounds like you’re having some Irish weather, only we haven’t been having it. A most mild winter here and all those whose ailments suffer from it are beholden to the weather gods. I am sorry to hear that you’re amid such weather yourself and feeling worse for it. Take care and praying it passes sooner than later.

I hope you’ll take the necessary steps to exercise and rebuild your muscle tone so you can take a few photos of the planters, Andrew. I’d enjoy seeing them. I was so envious late in the fall when you were getting rain and we weren’t, but since Thanksgiving we’ve had so much rain I can hardly believe it! I vowed I would never complain about rain again, so I’m doing my best to keep a smile on my face despite some massive inconvenience! LOL! Congratulations on a “like new” computer. I need one of them! 🙂

    • Seems like we’re going to get a lot of rain with current storm. I’ll work on those muscles. Today I was able to lift a sandwich – maybe by the weekend I’ll be able to lift a cellphone. I am hoping to get another 5 years out of my repaired computer!

  7. I like your excuse for not taking a picture! As for the computer, I’m lucky in that regard as I married a computer geek. Hope all goes well for you!

Glad to hear you got your computer back so quickly. I had to put my MacBook in the Apple hospital a few years ago and several days without it made me a little crazy. I’m FAR too dependent on it for … way too much. I love technology, but there was a lot to be said for paper files and records.

  11. I hate restoring files. In my current computer, I had them install a mirror hard drive so if my active hard drive fails, I just revert to that. No problems.

Well, I do then have to add a new mirror drive.

    • Sadly, the iMacs don’t have room for a mirrored drive. At work I normally recommend either RAID 5 or 10 (mirrored as a minimum), but at home I get lazy. I have started to move my more important files to a Google Drive so in the future I’ll be able to work on them from any computer. Who knows how long this new drive will last.
