Wednesday Sheds

We’ve been wanting a new shed in the backyard for a while.  The current one is a 25-year-old metal shed that is starting to rust badly.  At first I thought I’d build a new one, but I just don’t have the time this year to do that, so we ordered one of them fancy Tuff Sheds.

Here’s what it’s replacing:

Has served us well, but is at its end of life.

This is the junk valuable treasures it held:

And here is the new shed:

Yup, not there.

Sadly the company let us down Monday.  They showed up over an hour late, took out the old shed, then informed us that there wasn’t enough daylight left to complete the job and they left without installing the new shed.

I won’t describe the amount of grief I gave the Tuff Shed people over that, but I fully informed them of my displeasure with their service.

The good news is that a crew arrived first thing this morning and as I write, I can hear them working.  Sadly, the installation didn’t complete in time to make the deadline for today’s blog post.  Next I should have pictures of the new shed and maybe a few pictures of the bathroom remodel.

    Sorry to hear your new shed hasn’t arrived yet, Andrew. That is frustrating. We have a shed, as well, and it sure comes in handy for all the gardening and pool stuff. My husband built a deck so it would have a solid, even base to be set upon and it looks nice.
    As to the fires, it’s hard to believe they began on Oct. 8th. We’re an hour south of Sonoma and Napa, and dealt with a few days of bad air quality. But, each day I think about those who lost tremendously and continue to keep them in prayer as they move forward into recovery. We have donated several times, and we can only hope it has helped…

      I must have yelled at the right people. The shed is now in place and we spent yesterday filling it up. More about that later.

      The fires are just now being declared contained and with rain in the forecast should be completely out in a week. The loss will take years to recover from and some folks will never recover.

    So, in the meantime, did you have to just throw a tarp over all your stuff sitting out in the elements? And btw, how’s the fire situation up there now? I’ve been enjoying your updates on that. Oh, drat, or is it just in another post. Well, I’ll check regardless.

      We have every thing under a canopy, under a tree. Today we need to get it all put in the shed since there is rain forecast for the end of the week. The fires are mostly out. Likely I’ll do a final report this Sunday.

    Service businesses don’t take their jobs as seriously as they used to. That is, most of them don’t. It’s the going trend these days, I guess.

      and we have these large corporate operations who are more focused on profit than service. The crew they sent on Monday had already installed one shed in the morning. Personally, I don’t see how one crew can be expected to install two of these a day.

      There were few moments on Monday were I was thinking exactly that. However, today, they proved that wrong. Showed on time, professional crew, good product, and finished on time. Seems like a different company than I had the other day.

    Oh, that’s disappointing to say the least. I’ll look for your photo of your new shed. We NEED one and have been saying that for years.

      At least they’re out there right now building it. We’ve been thinking about this for a few years, and with the rust building on the old one, it was time.

      I’ll post a picture of the completed shed. I know of a couple of people who have them and like them. The parts they had on the truck looked well built and rugged.

    Sheds have been a huge issue with my HOA. I don’t have or need one, but apparently a lot of people do. And the HOA turns itself inside out trying to enforce regulations on their size, location, visibility, color, etc. But that’s what happens when you build houses with garages that don’t have doors into the back yard.

      The first two questions the shed company asked were, “What city?” and “Are you in an HOA?” Turns out the company gets problems like that all time – not only HOA, but also city building codes. Being a big operation, they have on file most city regulations and a surprising number of HOA requirements. I don’t live in an HOA (on purpose, don’t like others telling what color I can paint my house) and in my city sheds below a certain size don’t require a permit. So I was able to order one that fit our needs without the regulatory hassles.

        HOA – home owners association – only in the land of freedom do we create private groups who’s job it is to enforce rules and restrictions. The idea is to make sure everyone maintains nice houses and yards to ensure maximum property value. Most times it just ends up annoying everyone with wacky rules. I’ve never bought a house that is subject to a HOA.

          Sounds draconian… Never heard of it over here, thank goodness. I’m sure we would never live up to any “nice” house rules…
