There are times when words fail.
So many things that should be said.
So many things that could be said.
But in the cold light of day, silence,
and a tear are all that cross the rift
between broken hearts.
In grief and sadness
how can any word comfort,
or dull the hammer blow?
Sometimes the right word is no word.
Just a touch and the tear that says it all.

Thank you Andrew for this lovely heart felt poem. You are right, no words at all speak the loudest at times. I lost my daughter in 2010, many of my poems shroud my own poetry, the lost is too great to measure. Thank you again. You site is outstanding. E.

Thank your for you kind words on my poem. It’s difficult to lose a loved one, doubly hard for a parent to lose a child. Peace.

Very nicely written. I just shared a touch of hands with a friend in the hospital…that is all that was needed.

Often it’s better than words and communicates all that’s needed.

You’re too nice to have anything bad happen to you. You’re making me uncomfortable: please cut its out!

But what I’ve always wanted to know is why do good things happen to bad people?

Thank you, silence and presences are often the best.

Would that more people knew this, that sometimes silence is most compassionate voice of all.

It would be nice if more people practiced this.

There is a terrible sadness in your amazing words. I hope the broken hearts can heal.

Sometimes hearts heal, sometimes hearts are left empty.
