I voted

Thanks to the magic of being a permanent vote by mail voter I was able to complete my ballot and drop it off on Saturday.  Being in California, there were plenty of wacky ballot initiatives to vote against.   But I do take my job as voter seriously and spent time researching each candidate and proposition.

Wednesday morning I’ll compare the election results with my votes and we’ll see how many times I’ll say, “Idiots” or “Court case starting in two weeks.”  It was interesting to note that one ballot proposition was so wacky that the courts removed it before it could be voted on (it wouldn’t have passed or would have been struck down later in any case).

Of course it’s just possible that there are other people as smart as me and I’ll get to say a few times, “Smart people – good job.”

Get those ballots in.

    What was the wackiest? Is it just because it is California, or do the same kinds of initiatives show up in other states?
    I have to say, I’m a bit jealous of how many things American voters have some say about. Neither Canada, nor our Provinces have had more than a few referendums ever.

    It’s sad how we instinctively know that “Smart people – good job” will be uttered a lot less frequently than the alternative.

    I submit absentee, too, Andrew. The CA polls just closed, so I’m not sure where we will land with all those Propositions!

    I know what you mean about the peripheral stuff to vote one. There were 3 proposed amendments here in Florida that had one thing I’d really like to see happen and attached to it were 2 things I really, really didn’t want to see happen — so I had to vote no.

    It reminds me of a bill in the US senate years ago that was very popular, but by the time it came up for a vote there were so many special interest amendments added that it didn’t pass.

    I never got my mail ballot so now I’ll have to fight with them at the polling place. Odd it didn’t arrive.

    I voted by mail about 10 days ago. Lots of ballot initiatives, some of them very important and highly controversial. Lots of anxiety here, waiting for results.

    We vote by mail in Washington State. I think it helps with our turnout results. I voted! Now we wait and see.
