Lately I haven’t been in the shop much.
Winter time weather has arrived here California. Which for us is a little rain and colder temps. This affects my woodworking as part of my shop is in the unheated carport and when temperatures drop below 55, it’s not fun working there and things like glue and finish don’t work so well. Production levels will be falling and Wednesdays will have fewer posts.
Then this last weekend I had a bad cold.
Thanksgiving weekend before that, our Spottie kitty had to have emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage. She’d eaten some long dry fountain grass and it got stuck in her throat and stomach. We spent many hours (and dollars) at the emergency veteran hospital. The good news is that she’s fine now.
Well, there will be a few sunny afternoons where I can get an hour or two of wood work done, but I’ll have to slow down on the bigger projects until spring. I do have a small indoor workshop with a heater where I can do some scroll saw and marquetry work – and possibly move bigger outside projects to do glue ups in the warm.
I’ll also be doing more writing,
and digging up that fountain grass in the yard.
Peace,
Andrew
Wishing you a peaceful festive season, Andrew. I saw your comment over at Deborah’s about the fires and I, along with many others, watched in horror as they swept your homeland. So glad you can now move forward from this. 🙂

It’s difficult to see the amount of destruction. It’s going to take a long time for recovery.

So sorry about Spotty kitty. How could you tell something was wrong? And no space heater in the workshop?

Spotty was yowling in pain and start vomiting pink stuff that look like blood to us. Space heaters and saw dust don’t like each other – the fights between them are fiery …

Poor Spotty. And of course with the saw dust. Didn’t think of that.

Oh, poor Spottie! I’m glad she’s doing better. Our Merricat had a cold recently which I had no idea cats could get. I felt bad for her but honestly, cat sneezes are adorable.
By the way, today it’s sunny and 21 degrees. Amazing how that’s actually a nice day for me now. 😉

Wow, you’ve adapted fast. 21 degrees would have be booking a flight to anything south.

Poor Spottie-kitty, and your poor pocketbook. I assume veterinarians are as expensive in the States as they are in Canada. I’m glad everything turned out okay, though!

I had a cold on Thanksgiving Day. Hubs had to make dinner. I felt bad for him, but then I really felt BAD… Yikes about your kitty! That must have been scary for all involved. So maybe you could write about something else on Wednesday besides woodworking… Just sayin’…

It was a scary time with the kitty, but she had her stitches out today is doing just fine. I might post a Wednesday Writing post.

I would feel bad for you, but I’m from Ottawa (Canada) and am a landscaper, our winter season seems to last forever!!

Compared to you, a California winter is more like a mild rainy day.

Of course you have to workshops. Who doesn’t? And I am glad kitty is feeling better.

I’m glad to hear that your kitty is doing better. It can be a helpless feeling when they are not well and in need of care.
I like your attitude about the onset of Winter. You are not being denied working in the woodshop, you are presented with the opportunity to do more writing.
A positive mindset is an attractive quality, Andrew. Thanks for being such a good example.

Fountain grass will basically never die. I hope your kitty lives.

Most of the grass we have is in pots/containers so I’m hoping that will lessen the battle. But yeah, not easy. Spottie’s doing fine now.

Oh I’m so glad your kitty is okay! Dry fountain grass definitely wouldn’t work as normal feline greens.

We ordered so “kitty green” seeds. I don’t have a lawn here, so we’re thinking of planting this in a few pots around the yard.
