The cold light of dawn
plays in my mind.
The smell of frost
and the ache in my bones
conspire to pull the robe
tighter around my shoulders
as I sip tea to the pink grey east glow.
A cat rubs past my ankle
begging to taste the air
and discover a new day.
It was a busy weekend for me, family visiting, rearranging my office, birthday celebrations (mine and Heather’s) and just lots of stuff. So this week I offer this hastily written poem and a promise of more as time wends its way through the stars.
Peace,
Andrew
I might be very, very, late, but I still want to wish you a happy birthday.
(Cold weather and cats inspire the best poems, hastily written or not.)

Happy Birthdays!
Thanks for the poem. It matched my morning exactly, except for replacing “tea” with “coffee”. 🙂
Thanks for sharing!

Happy Birthday to you and Heather! I was Hubs and my birthday this month as well. And #2 son. We basically spend the whole month partying… It’s cold here, for Altanta…22 this morning. I was pulling the robe a bit tighter but I was most definately NOT outside. And then I think of my son and fam in – BRRRRR – Chicago. And worry (isn’t that a parent/grandparents lot?) Nah – I wasn’t cold at all here in Atlanta…

Happy birthday to you two!!! Well the high here in CA today is going to be like 58 and you’d think the world was ending – I mean we’re having to put on long pants. Hate to think what it’s like back there.

Oh–good news. In another few years, you won’t waste time on the birthday celebrations. Free up more time for writing.

It sums up getting older very well, yet still being able to appreciate how new the world feels to those who are young.

Cold weather does that to a person. Everything we’ve injured or broken in our lifetime starts to ache.

It does that.
