Wednesday Gardening – Driveway Progress

The peas are done and now we’re looking forward to the tomatoes

There are couple in there.

Corn shouldn’t be too much longer:

Growning tall.

And the squash and cucumbers are coming along too:

We’ve had a lot of hot days here so Heather has sometimes been out there everyday to water.  One of the problems we’ve noticed is that the driveway concrete can get very hot and ends up baking the roots.  When the weather was cooler, this was just fine, but the driveway garden isn’t the best thing for hot summers.

    Wow. We’ve had cool rainy weather for the past couple of weeks and our poor corn and squash and cucumbers haven’t grown at all. Hoping for some warm weather soon…

    I’m still waiting on the peas – we’re probably a month behind you and we only turned off our heat 2 weeks ago!

    What if you lifted the beds up with bricks or put legs on the beds. Just a thought.

    let me know if you have any luck with the corn, I find it doesnt produce well here unless planted in a large square. ie columns and rows of 6 each, something to do with pollination

    We would have the same problem here, Andrew. Our summers get incredibly hot and the plants wilt and sometimes die.
