Outing of the Week – Galena Creek Park

Heather and I have decided that doing some kind of day trip once a week would be a new thing for us.  Now that I’m retired I seem to have the time.

Last week we went to Galena Creek Park and did a short hike on the Jones Creek Loop before it got too hot to do anything outside.

Then we had lunch at a place called, “The Twisted Fork,” where the food was great but I was disappointed that the forks weren’t actually twisted – just plan old regular flat forks.

Here’s a small picture gallery of the trail.

    Maybe they used to have twisted forks, but people kept taking them as souvenirs. 🙂

    Nice! There’s a restaurant near us called the Raging Spoon. Maybe we should get those two together!

    I think anywhere a restaurant had twisted forks, the whole lot would be missing by the end of the day! They would make a wonderful souvenir of the visit for the customers.

    Looks like a great place for a hike!
    I wonder what the story was behind the restaurant’s name? Maybe before opening day, a fork got mangled in the garbage disposal and they said, “THAT’S IT!”

    Glad to hear you’re taking time away from the new home settling process — it’s good to take a break, and enjoy retirement!

    In case you haven’t discovered this resource, http://www.alltrails.com is a great free site that lists all sorts of hikes by location (via text as well as by finding them on an area map). It has directions, distance, elevation change, where to park, comments, and maps and photos. It’s a great resource for finding a good hike by location. We use it all the time, and have found many off-the-beaten path (and “on-the beaten path”) hikes.

    Enjoy retirement! It’s GREAT! Happy hiking!

    PS — I have a hat something like yours now that I use for sunblocking on our walks and hikes — Sue calls it my “Andrew Hat”. ha!

    Did you tell management that they should invest in twisted forks? They would probably get more notoriety like that.
