Wednesday Holiday Cookies

It’s that time of year when we do a little Christmas cookie baking.  These goodies are part of our gifts for family.  I baked four different cookies and Heather baked two along with a couple of cakes.

On the quilting front, I’m making progress on my bento box wallhanging.  Just over half way through:

I have three big block sets to finish and then I’ll be assembling the top.

There have been a few changes in the sewing area:

My current sewing area. Yes, I’m sharing space with our new laser printer. Someday I’ll have a better area to work in.

I do need to build some furniture for my room, but my woodworking shop is still a work in progress.  It’s been very cold out in the garage so I’ve not been making much progress there.  We do have a landscape contractor hired to come out next month and part of what they’ll do is level the ground where I’ll be building a shed to expand the shop.  All that will take time and likely I won’t have a fully working wood shop until spring.

Until then, if you need me, I’ll be at the sewing machine.

  3. Your wallhanging is looking wonderful, and so are those cookies. Yum! I usually do a lot of Christmas baking, but it’s just Hubby and me this year so I’m restraining myself. But next year? Look out! 🙂

Those cookies look delicious and I have begin my traditional baking, too. My daughter won’t be home to help this Christmas, but my son who likes to cook will probably join in. And my hubby will taste. 🙂 I admire your sewing, also. My mom could sew anything, but I didn’t get that gene. Have fun and stay warm!

  6. Love the block, Andrew. Eager to see the finished product! I’m snowed in today so have been making a baby quilt with 1930s repro fabrics. (Of course, I’d be in today even if it wasn’t snowing, but it’s fun to pretend). Anyway, that’s an interesting block and you’re doing a nice job.

My mind was so full of your lovely cookies, that when I got down to the picture underneath, I thought it was the most beautiful mint cake ever made. (And possibly the biggest).

We’re doing quite a bit of baking, too, Andrew, but because our social engagements are ground to a halt I’m not sure if deep down I’m expecting to eat most of them myself? Haven’t figured all of that out yet. I am so interested in your quilting. I used to quilt but I have so little desire to sit at my machine anymore. I have been thinking that perhaps in the coming year I might begin the piecing by hand. I think that might feel comforting. I’ll enjoy watching your progress!

    • Most of what we’ve baked will be delivered to family doorsteps or mailed out. Of course, we’re keeping a supply for ourselves. I’m really just starting with quitting and have thought about doing some hand quilting but for now I have a lot to learn with the machine.

Decades ago everybody on my block knew everybody else. And all the women got together for a cookie exchange at Christmas. I miss those days.

    • I remember that we use to gets looks of cookies and treats from relatives and friends. These days not so much, so I like to do a little extra baking this time of year.
