Friday Progress — Weird Week

The work on the deck is in the demo phase. The existing pavers need to be taken out and the irrigation lines moved before the deck foundations can be installed. Here’s as far as I am at the moment:

And I have found the irrigation lines that need to be moved:

Yeah, it’s not the kind of line that should be buried under pavers and there are signs of the line starting to collapse. I’ll have to pull it all up and find where the main PVC line comes in and replace all of this with the right piping before I can start on the main deck build.

Sadly I haven’t had much time this week because I’ve had travel to San Jose to visit my brother who’s in the hospital. Then my kitchen contractor called and has moved up the date of our kitchen remodel by two weeks so we’re now in full “get everything out of the kitchen” mode, so it might be a week or so before I’m back to this project and all the fun I was having ripping out pavers and pipe.

Well that’s it for this week. If you need me, I’ll be looking for more boxes to pack up the kitchen.

I admire the fact you’re not (visibly) discouraged by unexpected hurdles. You seem to just press on towards the goal without much of a pause. Maybe it’s the fact you’re repairing something that needed repairing – one less worry?

A lot of hard work but not so hard if we enjoy what we are doing. We are lucky if do not feel bored. Fortunately I too have not been bored by anything so far 😊. It isonly when we start clearing things, we realise how much we accumulate. Thank you for the photos.

Andrew, sometimes interruptions (like a kitchen redo) can be a divine break from other stressful activities (like deck project.) Pacing is important. when it’s all finished–what a pleasure!! Art

“all the fun I was having ripping out pavers and pipe.” Ha! I’m not totally sure how much of that was sarcasm. I’m sure some of it wasn’t, right? And, geez, another big project? Now in the kitchen? You don’t know the meaning of boredom, do you?

  6. Yikes, what a daunting list of “work in progress”! At least the pavers aren’t urgent… other than I’m sure you have a profound desire to just get it done and behind you.

Sending best wishes to your brother, and hoping he improves soon.

  7. We do what we can. This and the kitchen are both two large undertakings. Add to that your brother’s health. Sometimes we just have to roll with what life sends us. have a good week. (Don’t forget to take time for yourself, too.)
