Woodworking – what day is it?

We’re finally getting close to the end of our remodeling project.  The budget finally ran out on us so we’re doing all the painting ourselves.  Heather is an outstanding painter and I do okay.  We’ve completed a lot of the house – I’d say we’re nearly three-quarters done. Hopefully by this time next week, we’ll be done with paint and will have started to move things back into the house.

The big news of the day is that the granite crew came out today and installed our counter tops.  Now we can schedule the plumber to finish the sink and install a few badly needed kitchen appliances. I didn’t get a good day light picture but this one should give you an idea:

Many of the appliances for the kitchen are stored in my shop so when they get installed, I’ll have more room and will be able to get back to some woodworking.  First on the list is finishing those office pullout shelves I started.

If you need me – I’ll be covered in paint,

Andrew

Composition

I am on vacation today resting up from the stress of remodeling. Instead of trying to write something myself, I want share this very interesting thought from one of my favorite blogs, Cast Light. This is a blog I read regularly and get a lot of inspiration from.

“In the language of poetry, where every word is weighed, nothing is usual or normal. Not a single stone and not a single cloud above it. Not a single day and not a single night after it. And above all, not a single existence, not anyone’s existence in this world.” – Wislawa Szymborska

Be the poet of your life. Make each word count. Weigh each moment, filled with gratitude and awe. See the extraordinary in the ordinary. Light always overcomes shadow. Be light. A beautiful composition of light.

Woodworking Wednesday – yes, it’s Thursday

The remodeling project is heating up.  The trim carpenter has been busy the last couple of days on final details plus Heather and I have been painting like mad.

Today the granite people were out to measure the counter tops and tomorrow my electrician is back to start the final stages.  Heather’s taken over the project management this week so I could get a little break and spend some quality time at my office.  Of course, she’s been swamped with a lot of details, decisions, phone calls and trips to home center. All this work has kept me from doing any woodwork and likely will keep me away from the shop and my keyboard for another couple of weeks.  I’ll try to post some pictures from time to time. Here’s today’s finished wall:

The kitchen wall - only one gets this accent color.

The first room in the house likely to be fully completed is the bedroom followed by the kitchen – my two most favorite things to do, eat and sleep.

There are a bunch of furniture and storage projects I’ll be done myself so I expect I’ll have enough woodworking posts to last a couple of years.

If you need me – I’ll be painting,

Andrew

Just Cabinets

Just pictures this week as I am still in, “work in progress” mode.  It’s been one of those kinds of weeks.  The remodeling has gotten the better of me and I don’t have the energy to write.  The good news is that the home remodeling project has finally turned the corner and we’re now working to put the house back together.

I picked up Heather from the airport last night and I’d rather spend my time with her than writing – sorry folks, I’ve got me priorities.

The big news on the remodel front is that the kitchen cabinets arrived.  I had to take a day off work to paint the walls before the installers came and another day to be here for the installation crew.  The cabinets aren’t completely ready for use as the drawer pulls are on back order and we need get the granite company out to make their templates for the counter tops.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new cabinets:

Ever since the cabinets were installed, I just stand in the kitchen saying, “This is so cool.  Maybe it’s been worth it.”

Till next week,
Andrew
