Saturday Gardening – Man vs. Shrub

It’s been very hot around here.  Over 100 for the last four days so I haven’t been out in the workshop.  Last weekend I did manage to finish digging out that shrub in the front yard.  I am proud that I managed to complete the task without needing a visit to the doctor.

At first I wasn’t sure it was going to work out, but the new pick axe worked very well.  Here are a few pictures.

I received a visit from the inspector:

Spotty kitty making sure I am doing it right.

With great satisfaction I through the stump out on the street (our trash company picks up yard trimmings and composts them):

The carcass

The carcass

Well, no more stumps to dig out.  The next project is building a planter box in the backyard.

If you need me – I’ll be in the shop,

  1. Love “the inspector” and “the carcass.” Well done. I’m impressed you did manual labor in that heat!

You have more energy than I do 😉 I left my tree stump for a couple of years and the ants took care of it for me. I was able to kick the remnants over. It pretty much crumbled to dust 😀

  5. Congratulations on the stump removal, no easy feat! It was definitely a beauty, I hope you had a nice tall glass of something very wet and cold to celebrate with. 🙂

Andrew, are you offering your services? The temperature here is in the 60s and later on in the week will be in the 70s. How do you feel about riding a lawn mower?

Digging out a stump is a long, thankless task. In heat, it is even more of an achievement.

Tough to work outside in that heat, especially when you’re constantly being inspected..:)

  12. That’s a lot of hot work at 100+. We’ve been at high 90’s here in SoCalifornia. No gardening for me.

    • I did most of the work early – before 10:00 am and before it was much over 80. It took a couple of mornings to get enough time in to get it all chopped out.
