Since I’ve had restrict my walking around the last week, I went back to my marquetry bench and starting working on my next project. This will use a bird that Heather drew for me and I wanted to do a test cutting before doing the real project with this pattern. When I finished the test I decided to glue it to the top of a Shaker Oval Box I made awhile at a club workshop. Here’s a couple of work in progress pictures.

Marquetry on a Shaker Oval Box

Side View of the Shaker Oval Box
There’s another marquetry workshop this weekend, so I am hoping to have a different project to show next week. The little things sticking out of the side are toothpicks. The get glued in to help hold the top band on. When the glue dries, I’ll sand these flush.
If you need me – I’ll be limping around the shop,
Andrew

Thank you so much for the kind challenge. Just so you know, I don’t always follow the rules on these things, but I will take a look. Likely be a few days before I can respond.

Cat stairs and marquetry! You have a wide range in your woodworking talent, Andrew! The box is beautiful–not that i wasn’t quite impressed with the cat stairs as well! I hope that concentrating on your projects takes you a little further away from your current physical stress!

Distracting my mind helps. That’s a nice way to say it, “range of talent.” Some might think I lack focus. 🙂

Oh no! Not unfocused at all. I am very eclectic–I’ve learned how to frame it all in very positive terms. Ha!

Thanks. Sometimes staying with a project is a sign of perseverance. Sometimes it’s a treatable mental health issue. Not sure where I fall in that rang yet. 😉

Well, I am more of a craftsmen than artisan. 😉

I’ve always loved beautiful wood items. Something about the warmth, the grain, the “naturalness.” When it’s lovingly handmade and practical besides — doesn’t get much better than that.
