Friday Wisdom — First Snow

Here in the high desert we’re getting the first snow of the season. This is very early for us and we expect it won’t last. Still the local ski resorts are making plans to open by Thanksgiving. Here’s what by backyard looked like:

And here are some thoughts about snow:

When I saw the icy road, I could hear it calling, “Want to go for a spin?”

There is a new kind of bicycle for winter, it’s called an icicle.

If you need cash in the winter, just go to the nearest snowbank.

What do snowmen like best about going to school? The snow and tell time.

I put my radio out in the snow – I wanted to listen to some cool music.

The grandkids have been staring through the window ever since it started to snow an hour ago. Guess I’d better let them inside.

What do you give a snowman for breakfast? Frosted Flakes.

I only found one of my snow boots, but that’s okay, there’s only a 50% chance of snow.

What was the penguin doing in the Sahara Desert? It was lost.

Which side of a penguin has the most feathers? The outside.

I tried to be a fortune teller for awhile, but I wasn’t very good. I could only predict really bad storms – turns out I was using a snow globe.

I started writing this joke about snow, but it’s a bit flaky.

The weatherman told me that clouds only produce snow when they can really chill out.

I bought a snow shovel, but I had the heater on in the car and the shovel melted before I got home.

What do snowwomen put over their baby’s crib? A snowmobile.

What is the scientific of a snowman in summer? A puddle.

Andrew’s “Friday Wisdom”! Missed you, old friend. We were in Colorado last week for what was likely the results of the same pre-Halloween storm you were referring to. Thankfully Avis upgraded us from sedan to four-wheel drive. We needed every one of those wheels, especially since we’re out of ice-driving practice from living at sea level the last two years.

As a mom, it’s kind of terrible that I laughed the most at this one: The grandkids have been staring through the window ever since it started to snow an hour ago. Guess I’d better let them inside.

  6. You’ve beat us with the snowfall. Sometimes we have snow by this point in November but not in the last couple of years. It seems ours waits until January and February.

Congrats on all the snow quips! Oddly enough, I have never done a post like this on my blog – and I live where the first snow can be in September and the last can be in June!

  10. You beat us here in Nova Scotia, Andrew! 🙂 It is getting cooler each day and we had some icy rain the other day, but no flakes yet. 🙂

I guess I assumed you’d gotten the front end of the storm that hit us last week. Off and on all week– feet of it out toward Kansas– and several ski resorts opened this week.

“A puddle,” eh? We’d have paid for a bunch of those last summer.
