Wednesday Woodworking – Shop Tool Reviews: The Secret Project

Here’s something a little different this week – both woodworking and writing.  I am pleased to announce that the on-line tools review site, Shop Tool Reviews, has just publish my first tool review article.

Check it out here: Ryobi BS904G Band Saw

This was fun to write and I got to spend some quality time in my shop getting to know a tool.  Does life get better than that?

I hadn’t really thought about doing this kind of writing before, but now that I’ve done one, I kind of like it.  At first, I wasn’t sure I could write a 1,000 words about a tool, but I ended up cutting words to get to down to the assigned word count.  And I should mention that a few scrap pieces of lumber got much, much smaller during the research phase of this project.

The pictures for the article were taken by Heather and edited by the Shop Tools Reviews editor.

Hopefully, I’ll be doing more of these for them.

If you need me – me and the band saw will be in the shop,

Andrew

  1. I’m sure it’s an excellently written piece knowing your skill as a writer. But a review of a TOOL?? I’m going to wait to read it the next time I have insomnia… ZZZzzzz…. 🙂

I don’t know anything about saws, but I value highly reviews from users/owners whenever I’m thinking about buying something.

    • That’s true for many people these days. I know I checkout the reviews before I buy. Many are too short or just plain biased to be useful, so this review site is trying to provide a way for more detailed reviews by folks who regularly use the tools.

  8. I tried to comment there, but got caught in the CAPTCHA circle, so here you are: Very thorough review with your down-to-earth and accessible voice. Thanks, Andrew.

    • I’ll let the editor know about that. I figured my audience for the article would be a DIYer standing in a big box home center wonder if this saw would work for them so kept the write up focused on that person.
