These are the last of the seedlings from our indoor growing area. To get a bit of a jump on summer we started most of our seeds inside under a grow lamp. This bunch will be planted by the weekend.

I’m so excited for them. They get to enter the big world soon!

Have a couple of questions, Andrew:
1. How much does one of those lights cost (approximately)?
2. How well do they work?

I spent about 80 on the light and a seed heating mat. It worked well for us.

Our pepper and tomatoe seedlings are still awaiting a bit warmer weather before planting, but we hope it’s coming soon! It’s nice to see yours looking so healthy and eager to go outside! 🙂

Our pepper seeds are doing okay, but even though it’s warm enough here, the tomato seedlings aren’t doing as well.

Looking good! Someone once told me a gardener’s optimism is always high at the start of the season. I wish you great success!

We’re hopeful we’ll see where we are in a few months.

What an achievement!! It must have taken many hours to get so many plants to that stage. My own speciality in the garden is weeds, so you don’t need to look after them quite as carefully and they are a lot more independent. And after all, every single garden flower used to be a weed once!

Weeds do have their place and sometimes might be referred wild flowers.

Well done. I like the recycled egg cartons. I once used the inside roll of toilet rolls. Worked reasonably well

The egg cartons worked well, but did think about toilet rolls until we’d planet most of the seeds. Next time we’ll use more of those.

Of course that is assuming you have sourced enough loo rolls….

hmm … yeah, there’s something to consider.

I never have much luck with seeds, for some reason the plants get to about 1 inch high then wither away to nothing. Would appreciate some tips if you (or Heather) have them

This is the first time we did seeds inside so not sure I know what we did right. We did use a heat mat and a grow light for some of the seeds. When the seedlings grew two sets of leaves, Heather transplanted them to a slightly bigger pot. We also found they’d dry out quickly so they needed water/misting almost daily.

mine never got to the 2 set of leaves stage

Well, not all of our seeds worked out. What’s in the picture is maybe half of what we planted. A few things failed. We just planted a lot of stuff and took what worked out.

Me too. Damping off’s my problem.

Well, mostly Heather’s work, but I did build the table…

…. And that helps.
I used our garden patio table.
