Thursday Quilting – Big Block

It’s been awhile since I’ve show any quilting progress so here’s where I am:

The first finished bento box big block.

This is the first of the big blocks finished for the bento box quilt.  I made 36 of the small squares.  There will be nine of these all together that will make the top.  I’m making this as a wall hanging so it’s not that big.

Eight more to go.

My goal is to have this finished in January.  Yeah, it’s February and I’m a little behind schedule, but you know how busy we retired folks are.

If you need me, I’ll be at the sewing machine.

  5. Looking good. The precision needed in quilt making always amazes me. And then I’m further amazed when I remember that my mother made all of her quilts without using a sewing machine but by hand. She had a lot of patience!

Given that we are slower than we used to be, then we are automatically busier than we used to be, because we have less free time.

  9. A lovely quilt, Andrew. Deadlines always move out, it is a fact of life.

  10. I LOVE the design! Is that an Andrew original or did you use a pattern (or maybe Bento Box is the pattern?). Inquiring minds…

    • It’s a pattern I bought a few years ago from a quilt shop. I loved the pattern and tried to pick harvest season colors for the fabric. I plan to adapt the pattern for a marquetry piece when I get my new wood shop up and running.

I’m kind of blown away by the precision required to cut, arrange, and sew all these patterns and pieces.
