With the underlayment down I turned to putting down the vinyl titles and all that bending is making for a backache. The titles are 12 inch squares of the “peel and stick” kind. You layout a grid on the floor using a chalk line and try your best to keep everything lined up. On the edges, I have to cut the titles to fit. This sounded easy, but it’s fiddly work. The cutting is done with a straight edge and a utility knife. The vinyl is tough stuff and dulls the blades quickly. I’ve been changing blades about every five titles.
I expect to be done with title installation tomorrow and then I’ll install the baseboards. Once that is done, I can start moving equipment in. Hopefully I’ll be at the scroll saw cutting things in a week or so.

That’s it for this week – if you need me, I’m looking for my heating pad.
Look on the bright side — maybe this will be the last flooring you have to do?
Wait, I just realized what that meant! Don’t worry – I’m sure you have many floors in your future!

I hope there will be other floors in my life, but the next one will be professionally installed by someone else. Flooring just became something I’ll happily pay someone else to do for me. 😉

What fun work, except for the back. It looks like you’re doing a great job.

Well, not bad for a DIY guy.

It’s shaping up nicely despite the “shape” of your back! Hope the heating pad helps. Ice 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off always helped me with back pain. Or you could try a product called BioFreeze. My chiropractor recommended it and it worked for me.

I also found that a small gin and tonic helped take the edge off it. I’m looking forward to this being done.

Do you use the scroll saw for cutting the tiles? I put in a kitchen floor many years ago and found the scroll saw very handy – especially for those corners that needed to have cuts in different angles. As we know – there is very little that is perfectly square. I found the ability to adjust with the scroll saw was helpful. It is looking great though. So happy you are seeing the end of the project. 🙂

Didn’t even think of using the saw. But right now the scroll saw is stack with all my tools and a little difficult to get to. Good idea though.

Your photograph shows that you are working at the level the French would call “un travail de pro”.

Well, as long as you don’t look to closely.

It’s looking great! But I feel your pain – laying tiles at the edges of a room is no fun at all.

Next time, I’ll build a room that doesn’t require cutting tiles.

Looks good, though. Are you going to keep them this white and shiny?

Unlikely. Once the machines start it will take on a slightly dusty look.

Wow! I thought you were retired!

Definitely a lot of work, but it’ll be a great workspace when done!

Looks like a “clean room” with all that white tile 🙂

Once, I move the saw and sanders in there, it won’t stay clean for long.

I hope the heat pad makes the backache just a memory very quickly.
