Mystery Blogger

Awhile ago Mitch nominated me for the “Mystery Blogger Award.”  That kind of fits as I am a bit of a mystery.  Here’s his post on the subject:  my-mystery-blogger-award

Normally I don’t participate in these awards as I don’t have the time to devote to it, but Mitch is a special case and I thought I’d at least answer the questions he posed – okay it’s a month late, but here they are:

1. What moment or choice in your past do you wish you could undo

umm, my lawyer said I should never talk about that without him being present.

2.  Funniest movie/s you ever saw?

The Muppet Movie.  This is also a great example of positive leadership skills.  Just listen to Kermit, “Hi, I’m going to Hollywood to be rich and famous, you want to to come along?”

3.  Greatest song/s you’ve ever heard?

That’s a long, long list, but I have to put “The Sounds of Silence” very close to the top.

4.  Greatest truth you’ve ever learned?

God is.

5.  What are the last words you want to hear before dying, and/or the first words you want to hear after dying?

Before I die, I’d like to hear, “You will be missed.”  After I die in this life I’d like to hear: anything, really just something.

And three things about me:

  1. I have a baby face, must people guess that I am ten years younger than I am.  It’s a burden I carry.
  2. I am slightly deaf in my left ear.  I SAID, I’M SLIGHTLY DEAF IN MY LEFT EAR.
  3. I’ve driven the same car since 2006 and am trying to avoid buying a new car this decade.

Finally – Mitch you do deserve this award.  You are a mystery to me.

Wednesday Woodworking – Flowers have Ground

One last picture before I get on that airplane.  I’ve finished cutting the marquetry for the clock.  After vacation, this will get glued down:

Now the flowers are growing out of a little hill.

If you need me – I’l be back in July.

Leaving

The suitcases sit on the bedroom floor, with door closed to keep the sight from kitty eyes. Shirts and socks. Shoes and hats with adventure predicted by Wednesday.

I sit at the screen thinking there is so much to do, but not enough time to do it.  Thinking has switched from “what to do before,” to “what to do when I return.”  It such a long way from the screen to adventure.  Such a long journey from here to there.

And I sit here thinking of the comforts of hearth and home – of the joys of family and the warmth of a cat sleeping on my lap.

And yet, I know that when I am back safe in my shop, slowly cutting wood, I’ll wish I’d spent more time there – somewhere else adventuring.

Sometimes you just need to fly beyond comfort and routine.

Sometimes, the world calls and we need to see beyond our walls.

I’ll be away for a while, breathing in new places and new thoughts.

This afternoon as I sit to write I am reminded of the song, “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”  Here’s Peter, Paul and Mary’s version:

I’m not saying where Heather and I are off to – more about the adventure when we return.  Likely I won’t be responding much to this blog, but there are a number of posts scheduled while I’m away.  Ah, the joys of automation.  Talk among yourselves while I gone.

The wind is blowing outside my window and it’s time to be “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”

Peace,

Andrew
