Friday Wisdom – Retirement

My wife and I went on a little vacation this week to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. Vacation is a strange concept when you’re retired – exactly what are we taking a break from? Well here’s what I do know about retirement:

Bumper sticker: “Retirement, half as much money, twice as much husband.”

Retirement is when time no longer equals money.

Not too long ago the world’s person died, again. This is beginning to look suspicious to me.

You should start thinking about your retirement before you boss starts thinking about your retirement.

It’s better to pay full price that to admit you qualify for the senior discount.

At my last birthday they brought out a cake with candles and a fire extinguisher.

I don’t worry about the loud music of the teen next door anymore – I can just turn off my hearingaid.

The money in retirement is worse than working, but the hours are better.

Retirement – where everyday is Saturday.

    Sorry, I am late to the party. My weekend was full and this was the first opportunity I had to stop by.

    Retirement – That is something that I know many of my friends look forward to. (we are of the age where it is coming up quickly for many) Me – I don’t know if I will ever really retire. Money has so little to do with how I feel about what I do every day. I know that I am an anomaly in that respect. But grateful in any case.

      If I had a creative business like yours, I’d likely still be doing it. The demands of the high tech world just became too much for me, but if I could make a living creating and making things – wow that would be a wonderful thing and I’d do it as long as I could.

    Congratulations on the Anniversary!!!

    All the financial uncertainty and poor planning on my part has left me grateful to still be working at my desk job of nearly 40 years. I may just wait for my boss to retire me.

    Keeping up with the technology is a pain but the pay is a plus. My hobby is picking music with my musician friends every Tuesday at a local brewery. Therapist sessions at the cost of a pint for two hours of picking bluegrass. And play dates at local care centers are a kick too. When I end up there I hope someone will come picking and singing for me.

    Love all these retirement sentiments. In truth, it took 4 years before I could sleep in late and embrace the leisure. And many anniversaries to come!

    I love my retirement, but friends have advised me that I am failing. 1st it was a volunteer job, next I took a part time paid job. Then I decided it was too much fun so I went full time. After I quit full time I went to a different part time, then a new part time that forced me to move. I am truly failing retirement. 😅😅

    It’s an oldie but still a real goldie about the cake with candles and the fire extinguisher. The truest words, and occasionally the saddest, are “Retirement, half as much money, twice as much husband.” We both went on a course about retirement, and divorce rates in the first few years were strongly emphasised. I solved such problems easily though. I got a full-time unpaid job feeding the ducks at the park.
