Hot.
Too hot.
Energy sapping hot.
I have great thoughts but they can’t get past the headache.
A cool drink helps, but not for long.
The fan blows warm air around my head.
Thoughts do not cool.
Tap.
A diamond cutter studies the raw crystal.
Marks a line.
A tap cleaves it in two.
An irrevocable step.
Choose wrong and the value is lost.
Irretrievable.
No do over.
Fear.
Fear stays the hammer blow.
Reach for the jeweler’s loupe to study the problem afresh.
Time passes.
Dust settles.
The stone remains uncut, it’s value unrealized.
It’s beauty hidden by indecision.
The tap.
Steel edge driven by a sharp tap with a hammer.
Only one chance.
Only one choice.
Choose right and the beauty gleams.
Choose wrong and your heart breaks.
Or don’t choose and let hope stay on a shelf.
Don’t choose and let the beauty remain hidden.
Don’t choose and let life pass you by.
Hot. Heat blinding the mind.
In the shop a picture sits covered in dust.
Just four cuts left.
Which four to make?
In the past a choice was made.
Was it the right path?
Did I tap along the right line?
Is that demon banished?
On the horizon ships approach.
More choice.
Which leads to fulfillment?
Which leads to beauty.
What line do I draw?
Will there be more ships?
More lines to draw?
Heat.
The ripples rise on a distant highway obscuring the vision.
The distant mountains shimmer as my strength fails.
Come, cooling river.
Ocean breezes flow.
Darkness fall, and sleep restore my weary soul.
Tomorrow and tomorrow come.
Give my soul the strength to,
Tap
It’s going to get close to 100 here and without A/C I don’t think I’ll make it a the keyboard for very long so I am reposting a poem I wrote a few years ago. It came back to my mind as I saw the temperature forecast.
Till next week,
Andrew

Andrew’s mini sermon, “The world would be a better place if we spent more time trying to understand each other, rather than reacting to the latest outrage of the day. Just log off FB, go take a walk, and say hello to your neighbor.”
Look for the peace, light and hope in the world,

The weather has been warming up and I’ve been into the garden a bit more than my shop. I’ve been working on redoing our irrigation system. Years ago we setup a drip system. It mostly works, but has proved to be a maintenance headache. The drip heads clog, the lines break, the cats think it’s their job to knock drip heads out-of-place – seems like Heather is always needing to fix something. The other big problem is that the water in our area is hard, very hard, that is with lots of minerals that constantly clog up the works.
So I am refitting some areas of the irrigation system with more traditional bubblers and spray heads. It’s all run off a timer so we can control how often and how long they run.
First step is to dig up the existing lines and add a few more risers:

One of my favorite jobs, digging holes.
When the new spray heads are in place, we’ll plant a few more shrubs and a bit of ground cover.
Here’s a new bubbler on our plum-tree:

We think this tree never got enough water with the old drip heads.
Finally, here is Spotty Kitty watch what I am doing:

Our Spotty Kitty “supervising” my work.
If you need me – I’ll be out front digging a trench.
