This is one of those weeks when life has just gotten too much and I am not going to write. Instead, I am going to pop some pop corn, make herb tea and watch Midsomer Murder with Heather.
You see the weekend started out fine as we were going to take this causal drive over to Reno to celebrate our grandson’s graduation. You know, a leisurely drive with frequent stops and maybe a nice picnic at Donner Summit with a little walk through the forest. This time of year in California can be so nice. Warm temps, clear skies and the world still green from the spring rains.
Yes, I wish we had that trip.
What we got instead was rain, lunch in the car and running the car heater. Then just when we thought we’d be fine, I realized that the rain looked a bit white. We noticed the trees looking white. The the road started looking funny. Some thing like this:

What is this white stuff and why is it on my road?

At other times these signs said, “Ice and Snow, take it slow.”
We counted four car accidents – one spinout on the road, three off the road with one on its side with Highway Patrol officers converging. It was shortly after this that the road was closed and snow plows whizzed by. Snow is a concept I don’t get and we had 30 minutes trapped on highway 80 to contemplate it. The whole time my brain is saying, “It’s May, why is it snowing? Yes, I know it’s possible, but why is it snowing?”
The normal five hour leisurely drive turned into a seven hour ordeal that we’re still recovering from.
and yes the trip back wasn’t as bad. Well at least the snow didn’t stick to the road and it only rained.
Till next week,
Andrew
