Friday Wisdom – Electricity

I did some electrical wiring this week so here’s all the known wisdom on electricity:

Some people are shocked when they find out out bad an electrician I am.

If you plant a light bulb, will it grow into a power plant?

I got all my electrical parts at The Ohm Depot.

Old electricians never die, they just slowly discharge.

I just saw two lights go out. I knew they liked each other.

I bought a sweater that was full of static electricity. I took it back and they gave me another free of charge.

I went to an electrician’s bar and all they talked about were current events.

They just fired the new electrician – he just wouldn’t be positive.

I was reading about these worms that feed on electric wires. They’re called electro-maggots.

Just read about the electrician they arrested yesterday – they charged him with battery.

Why to fluorescent lights hum? They don’t know the words.

The electrician’s children were misbehaving so he grounded them.

I knew this really bad electrician – his nickname was “shock absorber.”

Wednesday Working – Wiring

The next stage on the garden shed is the electrical. Heather plans to use this as a bit of a greenhouse for starting seedlings. Here in the high desert that means heating mats and grow lights so here are some pictures of the wiring I installed for that:

This rat’s nest of wires is the junction box for the underground conduit to the shed. It was a bit of detective work to figure out which wires went where.

I found the right wires and here is were the conduit will enter the shed.

This is the rough wiring. Takes a bit of drilling, pulling and cussing to get it to this stage.

Here is the completed setup. There is a GFIC on the right for safety and not show is a light switch for those dark days of winter. This had its own set of swear words to complete.

Next step is to add installation, dry wall, benches, cabinets and shelving.

You’ll be seeing a lot of this project. If you need me I’ll be in the shed.

Friday Wisdom – Cars

This week we took our cars into the dealership for it’s regular maintenance and to install a tow hitch on my car. No, I’m not going to pull a trailer. It’s so we can put a bike rack in it and take our bikes fun places. You know, bikes don’t like being locked in garages all the time.

Here is everything I know about car repairs:

My mechanic said that he couldn’t fix the brakes so he just made the horn louder.

I asked my mechanic if he had a book on how to repair automatic transmissions. He said he only had manuals.

I think my mechanic is very forgetful. I asked him to fix the starter in my car and then he asked what year is it …

Did you know there is a fish that can adjust your car? Yup, the TunerFish.

The charged a lot to fix the tail pipe on my car. The mechanic said that they charge a lot because the work is exhausting.

I was in this bar when a jumper cable walked in. The bar tender said, “Don’t start anything!”

Just saw a review for a new movie about a mechanic. It’s titled, “Lord of the Springs.”

The other day I had this weird feeling that I was fixing dents in cars – it was an auto body experience.

Shouldn’t you have a current license to work on an electric car?

I asked my mechanic why my car was making that strange humming noise. He said that was because the car didn’t know the words.

Did you know that cats and dogs can have cars? Yup, they’re made by the Fur-rari company.

I complained that the new tires cost too much. They told me that they were inflated.

Wednesday Working – Drawers and a New Shed

It finally showed up last Saturday:

Still have a lot of the old shed waiting to get hauled off.

The crew arrived just after six Saturday morning and got the shed built by 9:30 am. They did a great job. Now it’s just a matter of me cleaning up the yard around it and start building the other yard things I want to make.

Heather’s already moved some of her plants and stuff in:

Just a few things she wanted out of the direct sun.

Over the summer I’ll be adding electrical, insulation, pegboards, floor, counters, shelving and other storage things. This shed will be mostly used for garden stuff.

In my garage workshop I finally finished pullout draw project:

Sliding shelves!!!

I have more work on this area but for now I have all the shelving done and am starting to put my tools in it. I’ll be adding some pegboard and putting some finish on this. When it’s all done, this will be my main tool and supply storage area.

That’s it for this week. The next big task is to finish plans for the garden shed and start buying all the materials I’ll need to finish it.

I you need me, I’ll be in the shed.
