Friday Wisdom – mistakes

I never make the same mistake twice.

I do it three or four times just to make sure it was a mistake.

More wisdom next week.

Wednesday Woodworking – the Jointer

This weekend I set up my new jointer.  This tool is used to flatten a surface and can be used to square up stock.  Used in combination with a planner it mills rough wood flat, true, and square.  I purchases a six-inch wide bench top jointer:

The new jointer on the table saw. Now to find a bench for it to live on.

This model is a bit of a risk.  I’ve not used this brand before and normally I like to use the heavier eight-inch floor stand models that have thinker and beefier cast iron tables.  Due to space and budget this is what will fit into my shop. I won’t be making heavy use of it and most things I’ll mill will be small, so I am hoping this works out.  This the first Rikon brand tool I’ve bought, which is a bit of an unknown, but the on-line reviews were good.

My test cuts went well, so it’s onward to more sawdust creation.

If you need me – I’ll be in the shop clean off a bench.

What is Art

I am always looking for a good definition of “art.”  Recently I was reminded of this one and would like to share it with you.

“The purpose of art is to lay bare the questions that have been hidden by the answers.”
James Baldwin

Do you have any favorite quotes on what is art?
